Chrysler has been manufacturing quality automobiles since 1925, which makes them one of the oldest car makers in the United States. The company has headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, and they are one of the reasons Detroit is commonly called the Motor City. But the American recession has hit the respected car maker harder than most, as sales of their cars and minivans tumbled by thirty per cent in 2008. The start of the New Year was even less encouraging as Chrysler sales slipped even further, down by nearly forty per cent. Finally, in April, 2009, the company reported that they were filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. They also announced that they were forming a partnership with Italian auto giant, Fiat.
Though it is difficult to say what the future holds for Chrysler, one thing is for sure, they still make quality automobiles. And while the company attempts to pay off its debts and get back on its feet, there are great deals and finance offers to be found for consumers. So, if you have ever thought about owning a Chrysler, now might be the perfect time to buy. (more...)
Many of us choose our car based on our lifestyle needs. If we have children for example, we need a vehicle that is easy to maintain, spacious and can cope with running from A to B every 5 minutes! Some of us are lucky to be able to afford more than one car. If you have reached the decision that you would like a second car, there may be several reasons for doing so. Many people have a family car and a second car for work purposes; one parent can go off to work in the morning whilst the other does the school run. A second car in this scenario is likely to be a small, economical and sturdy beast.
But what if you have no children? Perhaps you are about to retire and would like a car just for you. Only for you to enjoy on those hot, sunny days. Well, the world of motors is your oyster if this is the case! (more...)

Do you want a perfect example of human stupidity? The following is an irrefutable fact — diesel cars are far more efficient, and yet somehow less popular than petrol models. There is no punchline. No ifs, ands, or buts.
And while it is true diesel cars were once dismissed as noisy and smelly, the modern diesel vehicle has come a long way. However, the key selling point for these conveyances is still fuel economy. How much? Would you believe that you can save up to twenty or even thirty per cent on fuel when compared with petrol models? It's true. So, why doesn't everyone own a diesel? Well, of course, there are some drawbacks? Really, nothing is perfect. Probably the biggest concern of car buyers is the extra cost of diesel engines. Yes, they are more expensive. In case you were curious, the standard diesel model is only about five to six hundred pounds pricier than the petrol version. (more...)
We are linked to everything we do outside of our home by some kind of transport. For local affairs we may walk or take the bike but what about those that are a little further from home. Many of us have a car for this effect and we use it to get to work, visit relatives and much, much more. Many people think of automatic cars as being a lazy man’s option to driving and also an expensive one. There is no doubt that, without being careful, automatics can drink fuel like it is going out of fashion. But it can be an exhilarating experience now and again and also can help get you out of trouble if you need to move fast. It can also have the opposite effect of getting you into trouble! Residents of the UK were relieved to hear that the economy had finally emerged from a protracted recession in the last quarter of 2009. Shortly thereafter, there was another encouraging economic sign as the auto industry experienced a thirty per cent year-on-year rise. Unfortunately, however, when you dig a little deeper, the numbers are not all that impressive. To begin with, the economy only grew by a paltry 0.1 per cent, which was less than expected. And the rise in the auto markets had more to do with the Government-funded scrappage programme than it did with an increase in consumer confidence. You see, the Government offered shoppers a two-thousand pounds discount off of any new vehicle if they traded in an old car. In the end, the savings were simply too much to pass up, as consumers traded in old clunkers for new vehicles at a brisk pace, at least to start. Over the last few months the programme has been running on fumes and the Government still hasn’t used up all available funds, which means that they have had to extend the programme several times. On the bright side, however, consumers are opting to Buy second hand cars instead. (more...)
After Volkswagen, the French company Peugeot is the largest carmaker in Europe. They are also one of the continent’s oldest family businesses, as they can trace their origins all the way back to 1810. Of course at that time Peugeot made bicycles instead of cars.
The automotive division didn’t open its door until 1896. But because the family was apprehensive about investing in a loser, they made certain the engineers could produce a salable vehicle. This led to the creation of one of Europe’s first petrol-fueled vehicles in 1890. In the modern era the Peugeot has grown due in part to a number of successful acquisitions. For example, the company bought Citroen, also a carmaker, in 1975. A few years later they took control of the European division of Chrysler. Of course, Peugeot also had a number of incredibly successful vehicles, such as the Peugeot 205, which was one of the Top selling cars in Europe. For carmakers around the world, the failure of the diesel engine in America is a long-running mystery. After all, diesel passenger cars have been a huge hit in Europe, especially over the last decade. Since fuel costs and efficiency have taken centre stage, sales of diesel cars have doubled. At present, nearly fifty percent of all new cars sold in Europe have diesel engines. But across the Atlantic, the number could not be more different. According to a recent survey, about 95 percent of all passenger cars in the US run on petrol. The only vehicles that have diesel engines in the US are huge commercial trucks. Why the discrepancy? Well, one of the reasons is that diesel cars have a bad reputation in the States. When they were introduced to the American public in the 1970s, the first diesel cars left much to be desired. It was said that they were noisy, dirty and that they even smelt. And guess what? Those early passengers were right! (more...)
Peugeot is currently the second most popular carmaker in Europe after Volkswagen. Like many European car manufacturers, Peugeot started out as a family-run business. The company was founded way back in 1810. Of course, they weren't making automobiles at the time. No, the family ran a profitable coffee mill and dabbled in bicycle making. In later years, when the bicycle became a hot seller, Peugeot stopped slinging coffee and developed its famous lion trademark. Always on the cutting edge, the company was one of the first in Europe to experiment with automobiles, producing its first working prototype in 1891. At present, Peugeot sells over a million cars a year, mostly in Europe. But like most carmakers, the company has struggled during and in the wake of the economic recession when both new and used Peugeot sales took a hit. Fortunately, the market seems to be coming back a bit. (more...)
